"Off The Wall" isn’t the only great thing to come out of 1979. In that year, Jaymz H. Hardy-Martin III was born in Los Angeles, CA, and one could say, it was then his destiny to be a part of the entertainment industry, was written.
Jaymz got his start playing the trumpet at the early age of 9. His talents took him to heights some only imagine, beginning with his acceptance to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Early during his matriculation, Jaymz realized his desire of becoming a career trumpeter was fading. Instead, he discovered a passion for the production and technology of music, and consequently went on to major in Music Production & Engineering. Through his studies, Jaymz had the opportunity to learn studio techniques from some of the industries’ best engineers. Like a sponge, he absorbed as much information as possible, and after three years of studies at Berklee, Jaymz returned to the place where it all began, Los Angeles.
Jaymz’ successful transition to LA was nothing short of preparation meeting opportunity. While at Berklee, Jaymz had vigorously contacted some of his favorite studios, in search of that one moment we all pray for, the life changing opportunity to realize our dreams. Jaymz’ dedication led to not one, but two interviews and subsequent job offers, in less than 24-hours following his arrival in LA.
Even two of Hollywood’s busiest recording studios at the time, Skip Saylor, and Larrabee Studios, could not contain Jaymz for long. Within a year, Jaymz ascended through the ranks beginning as a runner, to assistant engineer, to freelance engineer.
Over the next 17 years, Jaymz would go on to produce records, score documentaries, record and mix records, and tour the world. His credits include albums by Tupac, MC Lyte, Janet Jackson, Ludacris, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo and countless others. Not to be overlooked, his studio work has been recognized by the Recording Academy with multiple nominations. As a touring engineer since 2005, Jaymz has excelled quite well. Spanning across 6 continents, Jaymz has accumulated over 1.3 million miles on Delta Airlines touring with Chris Brown, Toni Braxton, Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams, Ne-Yo, FarEast Movement, Nicki Minaj, Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Musiq Soulchild, and T-Pain.
In addition to the above accomplishments, Jaymz’ playback audio work, earned a Grammy with Pharrell Williams in 2015, in the category of Best Live Pop Solo Performance for “Happy”.
“When mixing and using Pro Tools in a live environment, you bring a different approach in comparison to the studio. I love the change of pace, and the high stakes of getting things done immediately. No second takes.”
Jaymz is no stranger to the television world. Through employment by Bassic Black Entertainment (BBE), Jaymz has worked on multiple TV specials, series, and award shows including The BET Awards, BET Honors, BET Soul Train Awards, VH1 Hip-Hop Honors, Lexus’ Verses & Flow, TV Land Awards, McDonalds 365 Awards, and ABC’s Boy Band.
Over the past 12 years, Jaymz has secured his role in numerous facets of the audio engineering society, perfecting his skills along the way. Despite being a 12 year veteran, if you ask Jaymz, “This is only the beginning”.
Jaymz currently resides in Atlanta, GA.
